Help us grow!

Each year BUGS works with over 1,000 kids in our gardens and at schools in community. Developing young gardeners and healthy communities takes a village, and volunteers are at the center of our growth. BUGS operates with a very small staff, so we are very appreciative of your time, support and skills. From help in the garden pulling weeds, to working with a group of kids at our garden (or theirs!), no task is too small and every job is key to our success.

Garden Volunteers: Can’t wait to get your hands dirty? Do you have green thumb (or want one)? Volunteer opportunities in our garden are just up your alley! From early March through November we need your help planting, weeding and maintaining our youth garden. Our garden sees hundreds of kids each season, and we help in keeping it beautiful.

Education Volunteers: Love the outdoors? Love science? Even more, love working with kids? Here’s your job! Each spring BUGS partners with local schools to run workshops and field trips. We are always in need of a few extra hands to be sure that students are getting the hands-on attention that they need.

Office Volunteers: Too hot outside? Too cold? Want to keep your hands clean? We have plenty of opportunities to help out around our office. Between mailings, social media updates, board members, and everything between, we need your help!

Teens in the Garden: The Boise Urban Garden School will be cultivating our first crop of summer service teens and we’d like to invite you to apply! The BUGS Teens in the Garden (TIG) summer service program will help support our partnership with three school based community center gardens at Grace Jordan, Morley Nelson and Whitney elementary schools and in the BUGS education garden. This eight-week service program is for incoming 9th-12th grade students. Application Deadline: March 31, 2017     CLICK HERE!   for more information and to apply!

Harvest Dinner: Join us at our Annual Harvest Dinner as a volunteer! It’s going to be a dazzling night and we want you to be a part of it! From cooking to serving, decorating to bar tending, BUGS has a fun job for everyone, so grab your friends and sign up to help on Friday, August 25th, from 12pm-5pm or 5pm-10pm. Volunteer activities include: set-up, meal prep, decorating, serving, bussing, bar tending, aiding with the auction, and clean up. Previous serving/catering experience is helpful but not required, there is plenty of fun for everyone!
